Madison Avenue through the Upper East Side is one of New York City’s prime shopping destinations. The section between East 57th and East 86th Streets is known for world-class fashion, designer footwear, high-end jewelry and much more. Well-heeled locals have been shopping here for decades, but a flurry of refurbishments and flagship openings in the past few years has brought a renewed glamour to the strip. Here are 25 stores to bookmark, listed south to north.

At De Beers, diamonds really are forever—the company adopted the slogan before the 1971 James Bond movie and has invented the eternity band and many other innovations since it was established in the 19th century. In this two-floor boutique you can handle an uncut diamond, create your own solitaire ring or browse some of the “high jewelry” and specialized bridal collections. The customer service is top-notch, as are the products, and you’ll rarely have to wait long to see an expert.

Since opening these stylish new premises in 2023, the Italian brand has offered a full selection of its ready-to-wear clothing, accessories and shoes for both women and men (as well as the Dua Lipa for La Vacanza beachwear collaboration). Boutiques on Madison Avenue are routinely dubbed “a jewel box,” but this one really is: brilliant white walls with fluted wood panels, polished gold metal and white ceramic fixtures, and sky blue carpets decorated with iconic Barocco prints and Greca motifs.

New York native (and Upper East Side local) Ralph Lauren made the 19th-century Beaux-Arts Rhinelander mansion his base in the 1980s, and it remains a showcase for the men’s collections. Across the street, the four-story flagship (built to mimic local 1890s mansions) for the women’s and home collections opened in 2010. At Ralph’s Coffee, shoppers and socialites mix over cappuccino and cookies.

How far does the rabbit hole go? Alice in Wonderland would feel at home at the Los Angeles–based jewelry designer’s two-story NYC flagship, which is as whimsical as her intensely colored collection. Inspired by Henri Rousseau paintings, the store’s allegorical jungle theme is enhanced by a 22-foot giraffe in the front window, a 14-foot hammered-metal palm tree, a spiral staircase with a swirling black-and-white geometric pattern and a blue oculus display table.

This boutique was remodeled in 2024 to reflect the superstar French designer’s love for Egypt and seaside holidays. The interior is adorned with crystals, geodes and Nile-inspired sconces. Wrought iron gates separate the men’s and women’s areas. It’s the first US flagship to carry Louboutin kid’s collection and Christian Louboutin Beauté products.
