Times Square is usually thought of as the place to go big in NYC, and there are certainly attractions, restaurants and hotels that live up to that promise. But you'll also find plenty of quiet surprises in this famous hub.

The triangle of Times Square runs from the old Times Building (where the ball drops on New Year's Eve), at the southern end, up to Father Duffy Square, where there are red steps from which you can take it all in. The neighborhood known as Times Square extends beyond those borders.

Max Neuhaus' sound installation is a well-kept Times Square secret. The constant “hum” that comes from the triangular pedestrian island at Broadway between 45th and 46th Streets is not frequently heard, due to Times Square's usual crowds—making now a great time to experience it.
