A vibrant, colorful street scene at night shows people walking past restaurants with bright neon signs, outdoor seating, red umbrellas, and various Asian cuisine advertisements lining the narrow alley.

One Night in Koreatown

This series is a three-stop snapshot of what we at NYC Tourism want you to know about our favorite neighborhoods. In this installment, NYC Tourism’s Vivian Xie takes us on an evening out in Koreatown, right in the heart of Manhattan and steps away from the Empire State Building.

New York City’s Koreatown is always brewing with trends on the cusp of taking off, from the newest K-pop drops and skin care products to the latest in desserts too pretty to eat. It’s also one of the City’s great 24-7 hangouts, especially for large groups looking for a night on the town.

K-town’s main stretch is 32nd Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, with most of the happenings packed into this single block. But don’t be fooled by its seemingly compact size; the revelry goes straight up, with restaurants, clubs, karaoke bars and spas stacked on top of one another.

“What I love about K-town is that no matter the hour, 2pm or 2am, there’s always something to do,” says Vivian Xie, a project manager on NYC Tourism’s creative team and the vision behind @

vxdollface - NYC Bites & Sights
, a prolific Instagram account where followers can keep up with her adventures in the City.

“It feels less like Midtown Manhattan and more like being transported right into the heart of Gangnam, Seoul.”

Read on for Xie’s ideal night in K-town, all without leaving 32nd Street.

First, Pamper Yourself at the Spa Club

31 W. 32nd St.

Why pregame with drinks when you can pregame at a jjimjilbang—a traditional Korean public bathhouse—for a relaxing spa experience? Start your night during daylight hours at the

Spa Club
, open from 8am until midnight, and relax at the largest Korean spa and sauna in Midtown.

“This is where the real glow-up begins before you get glammed for a night out!” says Xie.

General admission grants access to the spa facilities—dry saunas, steam room and pools—as well as day uniforms and toiletries (including a complimentary sheet mask). Food, drinks and treatments like massages and body scrubs are extra. After a long flight or a busy day sightseeing, unwinding at the Spa Club is just what you need before a night in K-town.

Next, Indulge in Korean Street Food

15 W. 32nd St., 2nd floor

Work up an appetite at the sauna because no night in K-town is complete without Korean comfort food. Second-floor restaurant

Pocha 32
is inspired by street-food vendors called pojangmacha, or pocha for short. Decor like fishing nets and metal sheet paneling echoes that of food kiosks on a busy Seoul street. Go with a group and dig into family-style staples like tteokbokki, “KFC” (Korean fried chicken) and, of course, soju cocktails. The fan favorite: a large-batch cocktail served in half of a hollowed-out watermelon like a bowl of punch, complete with a ladle. Make sure that whoever oversees ladling your punch has a heavy hand; you’re headed to karaoke next! In fact, maybe it’s time to play APT,
a popular Korean party game
, to prep for your stint on the mic.

End the Night at Space Karaoke

34 W. 32nd St., 11th floor

You’ll find karaoke bars up and down the strip in K-town—and all over the City—but none quite like

Space
. Perfect for groups, Space offers multiple food and drink packages (required to reserve a private room on Friday and Saturday nights). Worry not, Space doesn't have communal karaoke at the bar, so you won’t have to sing in front of strangers in what feels like the VIP room of an interstellar spaceship. (Though you better “Sing it loud and slay it proud!
No more hiding, I'll be shining like I'm born to be
” says Xie, quoting "Golden," a song from KPop Demon Hunters.) Instead, guests are ushered into private soundproof, neon-lit rooms to belt out their favorite tunes from an impressively comprehensive catalog.
