Description

The Galerie St. Etienne is the oldest gallery in the United States specializing in Expressionism and Self-Taught Art. It traces its roots to the founder of Vienna's Neue Galerie, Otto Kallir, who opened the gallery upon his immigration to the US in 1939. Among the Austrlian and German modernists who had their first American exhibits at Galerie St. Etienne are Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka, Alfred Kubin, Paula Modersohn-Becker and Egon Schiele.
