Gracie Mansion

Description

Archibald Gracie built the Federal Style mansion that now carries his name as his country home in 1799 on property that then stood five miles north of New York City limits. After Gracie sold it in 1823 the home served various functions including a twelve year stint as the location for the Museum of the City of New York.

In 1942, Robert Moses convinced Fiorello La Guardia to make the house the official residence of the Mayor of New York City and since then it has been home to nine additional mayors. The home was designated a New York City Landmark on September 20, 1966 and after an extensive renovation in 2015, scheduled tours are now available on Tuesdays. For more information about the Mansion, visit nyc.gov.
