Gibson and Luce

Out of Business

Description

A pre-Prohibition-era speakeasy returns to its roots at this clandestine cocktail lounge below the Life Hotel. The basement space for Gibson and Luce was discovered during hotel renovations and believed to be a secret haunt for employees of Life magazine. The bar, named for the magazine’s former editors Charles Dana Gibson and Henry R. Luce, builds on its history with a menu of Prohibtion-inspired classic cocktails and old-school spirits like the 1894, made with blue gin, dry vermouth and orange bitters. Antique glassware and sounds from the bar’s vinyl collection add to the laid-back, vintage vibe.
