Public Assembly

Out of Business

Description

No matter how fancy-pants Williamsburg may become, Public Assembly is proof that the neighborhood's best spots are the ones with the roughest edges. The smallish two-room club retains the dark corridors, cavernous ceilings and exposed brickwork of its original factory building, but the rather grand indoor reflecting pool at the entrance reminds us that this place has artier ambitions (and that the spot was the former home of Galapagos). Public Assembly gets packed for all kinds of events, from burlesque shows and obscure film showings to (loud) techno parties that don't really get going 'til 2am. Be sure to check the schedule before you go.
