Sugar Monk

Description

Harlem’s historic speakeasies helped inspire this new uptown lounge. The swank spot comes from somewhat unexpected founders: Ektoras Binikos, a visual artist and mixologist, and Simon Jutras, a photographer and interior designer. Sugar Monk’s artistic roots come through in its decor: lots of plush velvet, tropical wallpaper, low lighting and a striking black-and-gold bar. The cocktail menu includes more than 30 options divided by their inspirations, from “ugly beauty” to Thelonius Monk. From the latter section, try the Round Midnight, with rum, lime, grapefruit, ginger and bitters.
