The Meatpacking District has come a long way since its early days of factories and slaughterhouses. Now far more stilettos than work boots cross the neighborhood’s cobblestone streets, which are lined with sleek industrial buildings and glamorous designer showrooms. Warehouses have given way to cutting-edge galleries, which you’ll find in greater number as you drift north into Chelsea’s gallery district. The High Line runs through both westside neighborhoods, transforming abandoned railroad tracks into a green path above the city streets.
