Arlene’s Grocery

Description

Originally a bodega on what was a still-sketchy Lower East Side, Arlene’s Grocery pioneered what’s since become a thriving club scene in the neighborhood. For more than fifteen years, it’s has been the go-to live-music spot for emerging talent (Jeff Buckley, The Stokes, and Beth Orton all got their start here). Punk and hard rock are still the mainstays, though the club books everything from singer/songwriters to country music. All shows cost $10 or less. Check out the ever-popular Monday night karaoke, too.
