East Village

Electric Circus

Description

St. Marks Place in the East Village was one of the hearts of the City’s bohemian music scene in the 1960s, and the Electric Circus nightclub (now an apartment complex) was a stop for most bands on their way to fame. The Velvet Underground and the Grateful Dead performed there—an arty space where musicians, trapeze artists and jugglers performed alongside film installations.
