Freshkills Park

Description

This 2,200-acre public park, built on the former site of the Freshkills landfill, will be the largest park developed within New York City's limits in more than a century—and, when finished, will be nearly three times as large as Central Park. The recreation area, which will be under construction for the next 30 years, is designed to contain five different "mini-parks" devoted to different pursuits, like wildlife preservation or playing active sports.
