The cornerstone of Staten Island's massive Greenbelt, High Rock Park is known for its wetlands, hiking trails, plant life and wildlife, including hawks, owls, deer, blue herons and various types of amphibians. High Rock Park is noted as a tranquil and beautiful space to escape the bustling City and learn about nature—it was designated a National Environmental Education Landmark by the United States Department of the Interior in 1971.
