La MaMa Experimental Theatre
Description
One of the original homes of the Off-Off-Broadway theater scene, La MaMa was founded in a small basement on the Lower East Side in 1961. Today, it’s grown to an 88,000 square-foot space and hosts provocative theater productions, helping to give a creative platform to artists who are looking to break into the NYC scene, and supporting them as they strive to follow their dreams. Big names like Harvey Fierstein, Steve Buscemi, Bette Midler and Amy Sedaris got their start here, and the award-winning theater is also known for bringing international artists to NYC.
