East Harlem

Manna House Workshops

Description

This not-for-profit cultural center was founded in 1967 by Gloria DeNard, an alumna of the Juilliard School of Music. The first East Harlem organization dedicated solely to the arts, its primary goal is to provide low-income children and adults a place to learn about forms of artistic expression. In 1980, Manna House Workshops kicked off the Manna House MEEE (Music for Entertainment, Education, and Enlightenment) Jazz Concert Series. On the first Sunday of every month from February to June, renowned artists like Youssef Rakha and Robert Silverman perform; proceeds fund music lessons for economically disadvantaged families in the New York City area.
