Harlem’s famous Apollo Theater is important because it honors and promotes the contributions of Black American performers. R&B artist D’Angelo and rapper Lauryn Hill got their start on this stage, which has also been graced by hip-hop legends Doug E. Fresh, Biz Markie, Run-DMC, A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Foxy Brown and countless others.
