Brooklyn Museum
1
200 Eastern Pkwy.
The Brooklyn Museum, like its home borough, seamlessly melds the classic and the cutting edge. The original neoclassical structure from the late 1800s has a modern glass entrance from the early 2000s; inside it’s known for its collection of Egyptian art and work from local artists like Kehinde Wiley. His Napoleon Leading the Army over the Alps is on display starting January 24 alongside its 19th-century counterpart, Jacques-Louis David’s Bonaparte Crossing the Alps.

The Morgan Dining Room

225 Madison Ave.
J. P. Morgan built a special library next to his Murray Hill mansion and packed it with ancient sculptures and paintings—plus thousands of books, including a few copies of the Gutenberg Bible. In the oldest section of the now-integrated complex, the beautifully restored Dining Room serves a light, delicious lunch and a more extravagant, multicourse dinner. Celebrity chef Tom Colicchio recently took over, so expect a new level of culinary achievement—and definitely save room for dessert.
