Como o nome sugere, esta respeitada empresa de teatro produz e apresenta os clássicos desde que foi fundada em 1967 pelo diretor Christopher Martin como um espaço para 100 lugares. Depois de passar por alguns outros lugares em Manhattan, o CSC encontrou um lar permanente em 1974 em seu atual espaço na 13th Street, o Lynn F. Angelson Theater. Os nomes em negrito que se apresentaram neste local premiado incluem Liev Schreiber, F. Murray Abraham, Frances McDormand, Stanley Tucci e Maggie Gyllenhaal.
