Terry Dunne abriu o Tramps original na 125 E. 15th St. em 1975. Alguns anos depois, ele começou a reservar blues e soul com a orientação do DJ/porteiro do clube, Jonathan Greenfield. Tramps se mudou para a West 21st Street no final dos anos 80. Antes de o clube fechar as portas, Solomon Burke, Sam e Dave, Big Joe Turner, Rufus Thomas, Buddy Guy, Lightnin' Hopkins, Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton e Darlene Love tocaram a sala com 200 capacidades.
