Avlee Greek Kitchen

Description

Avlee Greek Kitchen opened in early 2013, a stellar addition to Smith Street's global offerings. The white-painted brick walls and open kitchen are nods to the traditional Greek blueprint, although this space feels completely contemporary. A cornucopia of Hellenic classics includes taramosalata, spanakopita, souvlaki and baklava plus a few less familiar items like spicy, cheesy tirokafteri spread and Cypriot pork sausage wrapped in caul. Golden fried pita comes with the spreads—as hard to stop eating as potato chips. The gyro is high-caliber street food, with curls of thinly shaved, fatless lamb and beef. The low-priced wine list goes deep with Greek grape varietals.
