Description
This soul food restaurant is the hub of its Harlem community, welcoming neighbors for comforting classics like sweet tea, flaky biscuits, smothered pork chops and barbecue short ribs. Mississippi-born chef Carlos Swepson, who works alongside his wife, Markisha, doesn’t play when it comes to Southern Creole fare, but also seeks to reimagine his creations with a fusion of American inspiration. The spot often hosts live music events that turn into full-on block parties—most recently, for the BET Awards with Harlem-born rapper Juelz Santana and DJ Pete Monsanto. Their Sunday brunch singalong series includes a live set from DJ Alligator playing classic hip-hop and R&B songs.
