Frankel’s Delicatessen & Appetizing

Description

The Jewish deli revival continues at this thriving little Greenpoint shop where everything is packed to go, although counter stools allow immediate consumption of matzo ball soup and hot pastrami on rye. Also best eaten right away: potato latkes fried twice for extra crustiness. One serving includes three browned pucks, along with applesauce and sour cream; a deluxe version features caviar. Partner-brothers Zach and Alex Frankel grew up on the Upper West Side, their forays to Zabar’s and Barney Greengrass making them mavens of first-rate bagels and smoked salmon. In addition to these classic noshes is an amazing hot brisket on challah. Weekends bring long lines, so try to hit Frankel’s on a weekday. It closes at 3:30pm (and is closed altogether on Monday) but the brothers plan to extend hours soon.
