Hit Gugu Room during happy hour (5 to 7pm daily) when wine, beer and tasty Filipino snacks are discounted. Or check out Filipino chef Jappy Afzelius’ dinnertime twists on kale laing sautéed with shrimp paste and coconut milk as well as chicken wings with hot mango salsa and pork dumpling soup with onions and garlic. The 45-seat space is a casual Lower East Side hangout with a big copper-topped bar and an open kitchen.
