Hwa Yuan Szechuan

Description

Cold sesame noodles, sublime wontons, crisp scallion pancakes, Peking duck carved tableside and kung pao chicken are highlights at this elegant, three-story restaurant—formerly the Bank of China. The first Hwa Yuan was a Chinatown hot spot in the 1970s, famously helmed by Shorty Tang. It closed decades ago, but Tang’s offspring has revived it next door to its original address. No matter if your memory doesn’t stretch back that far; the food is fabulous.
