Le Garage

Description

Theater and literature are rife with tales of mothers and daughters at odds, but Catherine and Rachel Allswang are the picture of domestic harmony at Le Garage, their French bistro in Bushwick. Rachel has a background in interior design and cleverly transformed a former garage into a tasteful, minimalist dining room with an open kitchen and a long bar made from bowling alley wood. Catherine is the chef, a Frenchwoman with a history of restaurants in Paris and San Francisco. Her Gallic menu has global touches and changes seasonally. Hanger steak with duck fat potatoes, pork shoulder braised in milk and wild mushroom risotto are richly flavored. Lighter appetites will find radishes paired with sesame salt and market fish of the day.
