The hip Freehand New York hotel features three food-and-drink spots run by Gabriel Stulman, whose Happy Cooking Hospitality is also behind the popular Fairfax and Jeffrey’s Grocery in the West Village. On the ground level is Simon & the Whale, a sophisticated, bustling New American restaurant serving pork collar Milanese and squid confit with smoked mussels. The mezzanine level holds the wood-paneled George Washington Bar and the all-day Studio, a beautiful space featuring a healthy menu with North African flavors.
