Tapestry

Out of Business

Description

Tapestry is not an Indian restaurant—even though the chef, Suvir Saran, is from New Delhi, has written Indian cookbooks and earned a Michelin star at Dévi, a highly acclaimed Indian restaurant in the City (now closed). Reflecting India’s history of trade and colonization, the menu at this white-hued, West Village bistro is cross-cultural. Sea bass ceviche with avocado, cilantro, lime and chiles speaks of Mexico while textured rabbit terrine with pistachios and pernod weaves in French accents. Fried chicken coated in masala spices and served with peanut slaw and tomato chutney spells comfort food in any language. Cocktails are particularly smashing. For example, the “Something Wicked” is an invigorating, smoky blend of mezcal, habanero sangrita, pineapple and lime.
