In Thai culture, parents will say their baby is ugly to ward off evil spirits seeking to steal the souls of beautiful children. Ugly Baby, an unassuming (yet attractive) spot born in Carroll Gardens, shows signs that it will enjoy a long, healthy life. Chef Sirichai Sreparplarn doesn’t pull punches with heat, so believe it if duck salad and chicken green curry are described as “spicy.” Regional Thai stir-fries and noodle dishes also hew to authenticity, not American tastes.
