Opened in 1921 by Augustino Conti, an Italian immigrant and apparent baker extraordinaire, Conti's has firmly established itself as one of the Bronx's most trusted names for sweets of every variety, baked fresh daily, mom-and-pop style, on the premises. The cookies, ornate wedding cakes, fluffy pastries and sought-after cupcakes consistently get great reviews for taste and presentation. And the store's Boston cream pie—which even Regis Philbin has publicly gushed over—is made using a near-century-old recipe that still has the power to draw in locals and tourists alike.
