Thelewala traffics in Indian street food, but it looks and tastes more gourmet than that. Connoisseurs will appreciate the lightness, brightness and crunch of the jaal moori, a picturesque mold of puffed rice, peanuts, red onions, potatoes, lime and olive oil. The signature chicken roll is another delight, packed with fried eggs and a blend of spices. This mini eatery is part of a restaurant portfolio that includes the superb Dhaba in Curry Hill and Malai Marke in the East Village. Prices are lower here, in keeping with its college-student environs, and ordering is done at the counter. Seating consists of a few stools, so it's more for takeaway.
