2nd Floor at 2nd Avenue Deli

Description

The legendary Second Avenue Deli offers a new way to wash down that pastrami sandwich: with a drink at its second-floor craft cocktail bar. Head upstairs (the bar has a dedicated entrance on East 75th Street) to sample the certified kosher menu of drinks, which incorporate Jewish deli-inspired ingredients like celery soda—served in the gin-based Upper Eastsider—and Manischewitz syrup, mixed with gin in the Man-o-Manischewitz. The cocktails go well with bar bites like like pastrami deviled eggs, birch-smoked tongue sliders, franks-in-a-blanket and brisket beef jerky, part of a menu that similarly riffs on traditional deli fare. The bar, which has a vintage feel courtesy of its tin ceiling, red leather booths and antique Yiddish theater posters, is the brainchild of Josh and Jeremy Lebewohl, whose late uncle founded the original deli in 1954.
