Ever-illuminated Mulberry Street gets a bit brighter each September during the Feast of San Gennaro, an annual event since 1926. Over the course of the 11-day tribute to Naples’ patron saint, Little Italy’s streets fill with nods to tradition, including a post-mass procession featuring floats and the sacred statue of San Gennaro. Add in flowers, lights, carnival games and, of course, food, and you have a massive outdoor street festival. Vendors offer Italian specialties like braciole, sausage and peppers, biscotti and pizza, a reminder that the event is as much a show of ethnic pride as it is a celebration of faith. Take a look at the 2018 edition, captured in the following images. Then visit this year's festival starting September 12 to experience an enduring piece of New York culture in person.
