Let us guess: it was Pride weekend and you went just a little too crazy. Hey, we’re not judging! It’s happened to the best of us. And since this year’s Pride isn’t our first, we’re here to share some tips we’ve learned over the years to feel your best after a busy few days of celebrating.
1. Take a Day Off from Work
Whether it’s finding someone to take your shift or calling your boss the next morning in your best fake sick voice, you’re going to want to take off the Monday after Pride. So stay home, curl up with a good book or watch some Netflix, and get ready for a long day to relax and rejuvenate.
2. Make Sure to Hydrate
This may come as something of a surprise, but historically speaking, gay folks tend to have a few drinks as part of the Pride weekend festivities. Shocker! While there are many supposed cures for a hangover, nothing beats water. Drink it during Pride, and drink plenty of it while you’re nursing that headache.
3. Build Those Playlists
You have day of recovering ahead of you, so we suggest you put on some healing music to help the process along. The playlist will be different for everyone, but if it’s us, we’d start with the Beatles (who else?), maybe some Jane Siberry, a little Mac DeMarco, Miles Davis and some Indigo Girls, because eventually you’re going to have to wake up.
4. Enjoy a Classic Brunch
Brunch in the LGBTQ+ community is legendary. Head to one of our favorite West Village brunch spots,
5. We Know, We Know, But…Exercise
You marched for miles, danced for hours and probably burned more calories than you have in ages. Now you’re probably wondering: why are we telling you to exercise even more? It’s all about the endorphin release. Exercise has been proven to improve your mood, raise your energy level and power through those hangover blues. The
6. Bring a Picnic on the Circle Line
This is one of our favorite ways to get some fresh air, healthy eating and sightseeing all into one fun afternoon. The
7. Have You Had Your Turmeric?
If your throat is strained and sore the morning after from chanting and singing at the top of your lungs, we’d like to introduce you to our new friend: turmeric, an Indian spice that’s been used for centuries in eastern medicine. It’s known for its anti-inflammatory properties and is used by opera singers to heal their voices between performances. We like to make turmeric milk by mixing the spice with some milk, cinnamon and raw honey.
8. Find Some Peace and Quiet
By the end of a long weekend of crowded streets, packed bars and sharing a hotel room with five of your best buddies, you may need some peace and a lot of quiet. The
9. Feel the Heeling Power
So you thought marching for miles in heels was a good idea? Eighteen hours in heels can be rough. This is why spas were invented. (OK, it may not be the exact reason...) When our bodies need some serious care and rejuvenation, we disappear into the
10. Go to Bed
Nothing will refresh your mind, body and spirit like some good sound sleep. Do it during the day, do it at night and savor it as much as you can—Tuesday morning will be here any minute.
