Jacob Lawrence: The American Struggle

calendar_month

This event has already occurred

Description

Struggle: From the History of the American People was originally conceived as a series of small-scale paintings that showcased America from the period of European colonization through World War I. Lawrence painted these pieces at the height of the Cold War and during the fight for civil rights, both of which influenced his work and how he represented of people of color in his paintings. When completed, the series of 30 panels covered the period from 1775 through 1817. This exhibit reunites as many of the panels as were findable for the first time since their initial showing more than 50 years ago.
