Description

The vibe of a 1940s swing club comes to life in Bandstand, which finds a WWII veteran and singer-songwriter Donny Novitski and his band of fellow veterans performing nightly. After learning of a radio contest to find the country’s next big swing band, Donny must ready his group of misfits for competition—the first step being the addition of war widow Julia as lead singer. Through the band’s story, we learn of the losses and secrets that followed them home after war, and how their final performance helps them underscore the “true meaning of victory.” The show features an original score and choreography, the latter courtesy of Tony winner Andy Blankenbuehler (Hamilton, In the Heights), who also directs.
