Barkley L. Hendricks: Portraits at the Frick
This event has already occurred
Description
Many artists have engaged with the legacies of the Old Masters in the Frick’s collection. Barkley L. Hendricks was one, and he began painting Black figures in the styles and traditions of European painting more than half a century ago, challenging norms in the art world. This exhibit, one of the last at Frick Madison before the museum returns to its permanent (and just renovated) home, displays 14 works from Hendricks’ career—four decades after his first NYC exhibition, which took place in this same building (then the Whitney).
