Britt Berke directs this play by Betty Smith, who made her mark in the literary world at the age of 47 with her groundbreaking 1940s novel, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. In Becomes a Woman, Smith, who aspired to a life in the theater before she turned to fiction, has given us a play (which was never previously published nor produced) about a young woman who lives with her family and learns tough lessons as she navigates a hardscrabble upbringing in Brooklyn.
