Bordering the Imaginary: Art from the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Their Diasporas
This event has already occurred
Description
The Dominican Republic and Haiti have had a long and complicated relationship—due to the fact that they are two nations with substantial cultural differences that share the same island. BRIC presents this exhibition featuring the works of 19 Dominican and Haitian artists that are based in their native countries and the United States. Through these works, visitors will notice the inequalities and stereotypes of race, gender and sexuality that have existed on this single island for centuries, and also how the Dominican and Haitian cultures differ and yet manage to coexist.
