The Christa Project: Manifesting Divine Bodies

This event has already occurred

Description

Edwina Sandys’ Christa was the centerpiece of a Holy Week 1984 exhibit about the feminine divine. While reviews were generally positive, a vocal minority criticized the installation as blasphemous. In connection with the changing conversations about the politics of identity, Christa returns to the Cathedral alongside works by more than twenty other contemporary artists whose works also explore the language, symbolism, art and ritual associated with the image of Christ. The visual art exhibit is complemented by a series of performances choreographed by Eiko Otake of the performance art duo Eiko & Koma.
