Faith and Empire: Art and Politics in Tibetan Buddhism
This event has already occurred
Description
This exhibition explores the intersection of politics, religion and art in Tibetan Buddhism, a culture that once allowed religious mandate to determine who would be in power. While we're accustomed to the separation of religion and rule in the US, Tibetan Buddhism is of the other extreme allowing rulers to acquire power via religion. More than 60 objects from the 8th to the 19th century help illustrate this fascinating Tibetan tradition.
