This event has already occurred

Description

When talking about the settlement of New Amsterdam, people frequently talk about the Dutch and the British. However, the miniscule Jewish population also flourished as a result of the political and religious freedoms offered in the New World. This exhibit follows that population from their homes in Europe to South America and the Caribbean and finally to their controversial 1654 arrival in New Amsterdam. Items on view, including portraits, maps and documents, also showcase their life in 19th century New York, Philadelphia and Charleston.
