This event has already occurred
Description
On the second Sunday of the month, visitors to the Whitney Museum of American Art enjoy free admission all day to Edges of Ailey: the first large-scale museum exhibition to reflect on the life, work and legacy of visionary artist Alvin Ailey. Organized in close collaboration with the Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation—bringing two iconic American institutions together—Edges of Ailey is a multimedia celebration of the legendary choreographer’s artistic vision and profound impact on American culture. This unprecedented exhibition places Ailey within a broader social and cultural context and features the work of artists who influenced and collaborated with him, including works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Jacob Lawrence, Faith Ringgold, Alma Thomas and many more. This blockbuster exhibition is accompanied by an ambitious program of live performances, workshops, classes and panels to bring the Ailey legacy to life. Note: all visitors enjoy free admission every Friday night from 5 to 10pm and all day on the second Sunday of every month.
