From the Bronx to the Battery: The Subway Sun
This event has already occurred
Description
The first museum in the country dedicated solely to the impact of posters, the Poster House presents this exhibition of the earliest subway ads to run in NYC. In 1904, when the Interborough Rapid Transit Company opened the first underground subway line, they developed two in-car poster campaigns to encourage people to take the subway and explore all five boroughs. The more successful of these, "The Subway Sun," continued for years and produced many ads. Get a glimpse at the cartoonlike and whimsical drawings depicting areas of the City such as Orchard Beach, The Cloisters and Staten Island.
