Grant Wood: American Gothic and Other Fables
This event has already occurred
Description
Grant Wood’s American Gothic, which was painted in 1930 and depicts an unsmiling, apron-clad woman and a dour man with a pitchfork posing in front of a farmhouse, is one of the best-known American paintings of the 20th century. This retrospective at the Whitney seeks to introduce viewers to Wood’s other important contributions, ranging from Impressionist oils dating back to the 1920s to book illustrations, murals and paintings from his later years.
