Description
So-called hidden portraiture is a relatively unexplored element of Renaissance art. This exhibit explores how portraits’ adornments, emblems and inscriptions reflect the subjects’ characteristics as well as cultural values of the time; on display are works by Hans Memling, Lucas Cranach, Lorenzo Lotto and Titian, among other European painters.
