Hip Hop at 50 by Janette Beckman

Photographer Janette Beckman was shooting the London music scene in 1982 for Melody Maker when she was assigned to cover "New York City Rap," the first hip-hop show in the UK. Before that show, Beckman took portraits of the performers, which marked the beginning of her career documenting hip-hop stars such as Salt-N-Pepa and Run-DMC. See some of her work in this exhibit, co-curated by Beckman, at the Seaport.
