Description

Held in Central Park, Japan Day and the hallmark Japan Parade mark the cultural impact of the Japanese community in NYC, raise cultural awareness and reinforce Japanese-American solidarity. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Japanese Mission in 1872 and the establishment of the Consulate of Japan in New York, which strengthened relations between the US and Japan. Honoring Japanese culture and heritage, the first-ever Japan Parade will kick off in Central Park and travel south along Central Park West between 81st and 68th streets. Japan Day organizers are holding an art contest for participants to create 2D artwork that incorporates themes of Japan, New York City and the parade. Free to enter and open to the public, the winner's artwork will be used for the Japan Day poster, official program and t-shirt. The winner will receive a round-trip ticket to Japan for two provided by All Nippon Airways, one night's stay at Ogawa-Shou, a Japanese-style bed and breakfast in Connecticut, and watches from Citizen Watch America.
