Description
The first Jewish immigrants to Manhattan arrived in 1654, during Dutch colonial times. The small group of 23 people had considerable restrictions placed on them and had to struggle to earn a living and support themselves. More Jews arrived from various countries during Dutch and British periods in NYC. They had to find places to pray, access to kosher food and worked to keep their children within the faith. Learn about this time period for New York City's Jewish community with this walking tour. Tours meet outside the Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House at 1 Bowling Green.
