Description
Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, is one of June’s most important occasions. Though the official holiday is on June 19, New York City celebrates throughout the entire month. Some of the larger events include those at the New York Public Library’s various branches, the Juneteenth in Queens festival, Brooklyn’s Juneteenth NY Celebration and Staten Island’s Juneteenth Freedom Festival at Snug Harbor Cultural Center, which includes music, food, vendors and activities for all ages. Many of these events are free to attend.
