La Serenissima: Music and Arts from the Venetian Republic
This event has already occurred
Description
Venice, equal parts modern city, historical power and myth. The Venetian Republic—also known as La Serenissima, flourished for one thousand years as a symbol of maritime supremacy, democratic progressiveness, financial prosperity, and cultural innovation. Much like Istanbul, Venice bridged East and West and this combination of cultures shaped the Republic's history, and present, even after it fell to Napoleon in 1797.
Carnegie Hall's programming is complemented by citywide events that include panel discussions, exhibits and other programming that examine the Republic's culture.
